About
In the center of Kampala you can find a large square full of mini busses, a real vibrant city transfer hub.
From the outside it is difficult to unravel the logistics, but every traveler knows where to go. The municipality has new plans for this area: a future proof transport hub that will grow along with the expansion of the city. Together with Dasuda and the community of local stake holders we have proposed a new masterplan.
On top of a multi layered open warehouse, the transport deck connects passengers to their busses. Logistically people can easily enter the deck from all surrounding streets.
We provide shade for waiting passengers and bus drivers through a large bamboo roof.
This roof will be an outstanding landmark. The municipality was highly enthusiastic cause it will be an icon for the city and even the country, grown and sourced from their own land.
An important part of the design phase was the engagement of the stakeholder workshops.
Through multiple sessions we found commitment for a shared vision to develop. Another high light is the bamboo roof.
Together with Atelier One we have proposed a design that will aim for high standards in bamboo construction. Following inspiration from nature the local approach will be found through lessons learned in elegant structural principles of flowers. High end design meets local possibilities.
