About
April 2024: the European Commission invited visionairs, innovators and designers to Brussels to collectively share how the Greendeal can be implemented in daily life during the New European Bauhaus Festival.
We were invited to design and build the dutch pavilion out of bamboo. Together with The Dutch Bamboo Foundation, Vinc Math and a team of bamboo enthusiast we build the pavilion. The Trilix Bamboo Pavilion is an innovative, eco-friendly structure designed to showcase the versatility and sustainability of bamboo as a building material.
Bamboo in the city center is something new. Many people were surprised to see that we could build a structure like this out of bamboo. We received opportunistic questions and a lot of smiles.
The pavilion stood out next to Brussels' Arc de Triomphe in its materiality, a beautiful contrast.
With its organic shapes the pavilion fell in its place surrounded by the round colonnade of the neoclassical museum. The tactility of this natural material is so appealing, that visitors just came by to simply touch the structure.
For the pavilion we used bamboo from Europe, we even harvested some of the poles in the Netherlands. On site we had five days to build this structure.
We had a team of artists, builders and architects who were keen on learning the specifics of building with bamboo.
With this experience we would like to start a new journey: enhancing European cities with bamboo pavilions. Spreading the enthusiasm and knowledge of building with bamboo to other cities. In October 2024 we built the Trilix again during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.
