About
The start of our work with bamboo was initiated in 2020. After building the first bamboo pavilion in Uganda we were committed to extend this journey further.
Bamboo is a material that inspires us in its variety of opportunities. To make high quality bamboo buildings, we needed to establish a strong supply chain of bamboo. We founded Bamboo Uganda with two other partners, Bijimu (a bamboo nursery) and Amabanda (a bamboo factory.) Together we set up and secure the whole bamboo value chain. We collaborate and rely on each other in developing a strong market for bamboo (building) products.
One of the researches we do in Uganda is a large scale resource assessment. We map the existing bamboo farms in Uganda. Since 2009 Uganda has a national bamboo policy in which they stimulate people to grow bamboo.
With Bamboo Uganda we share the knowledge how to properly maintain a bamboo farm.
It will give them a stable source of income for years and guarantees us the supply of high quality bamboo poles.
We are working on producing a laminated beam made out of bamboo strips.
Engineered bamboo is an interesting addition to the market in Uganda.
The rectangular shape is recognizable for many wood workers. A laminated beam could be a product that is easily accepted, as people know how to construct with it. Our goal? Making it fully out of bamboo, also the glue.
